Winter Dance

Painesville City Local Schools had a snow day today so tonight's dance is cancelled. We will send home a letter next week as soon as we reschedule the date. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Market Day

Hope everyone had a nice break! Due to the snow day yesterday, the Market Day pick up had to be cancelled. If you ordered Market Day the new pick up date is this Friday, January 10th at 4:30.

Veterans Day at Chestnut Elementary

Chestnut Elementary is having Veterans Day Assemblies to honor any Veterans associated with Chestnut families on Monday, November 11, 2013.  The ceremonies will be held in the gym at the following times: Blue Pod (K-1) 9:10-9:40, Green Pod (2-3) 9:50-10:20 and Yellow Pod (4-5) 10:30-11:00.

Fall Fundraiser Pick-up



Thank you to everyone who participated in the Fall Fundraiser. The fundraiser will be delivered to the school on Monday, November 19th!  If your child participated in this fundraiser, please come to Chestnut Elementary on November 19th to pick-up your items between 3-5 pm!

Common Core, Technology, and Race to the Top Presentation

Dave Bull, Director of School Improvement, will be presenting information about the new Common Core State Standards, the role of technology and Race to the Top. We hope to provide insight to the changes coming and how parent organizations can support the efforts of the district. All are welcome to attend on Monday, June 4 at 5pm in the Music Room.

Member Appreciation Event, May 14

In appreciation of the dedication and support each member gives to Chestnut Elementary PTA, a casual evening of recognition will be held May 14th. All paid members will receive an invitation by mail before April 20th. Please RSVP by May 6th.

Dynamic Duo Dance, April 20

Chestnut Students and their adult chaperons are invited to this fun filled evening on Friday, April 20 from 6-8pm at Chestnut Elementary. The cost to attend is $2 for students, $3 for adults. This includes a full dinner, 1 on-site printed picture of each student and their adult chaperon, and a professional DJ spinning the hits! Information was sent home with students before Spring Break. All RSVPs, including payment, must be received by Monday, April 16 at 3pm.

Yearbook Cover Entries Needed

Students wanting to submit entries for the Chestnut Elementary 2011-2012 yearbook are encouraged to submit original artwork to Chestnut PTA by Monday, January 30. All artwork should be in full color on white 8 1/2x11in. paper. The winning yearbook cover will be selected by Chestnut PTA members at the February 1st meeting by secret ballot.

Indoor Recess Parent Volunteer Training

The Lake County YMCA is developing an outreach program to help Painesville City elementary schools when indoor recess is needed due to the winter weather. Abby Silvestri, Sports and Outreach Director at the Central Branch, presented the program and asked for volunteer help at our January meeting.

A training session will be held Friday, January 20 from 12-1pm at the Lake County YMCA Central Branch. Children are welcome to attend with their parents since this is a teacher in-service day. Abby will review different games and lesson plans to be used as well as talk about how the program will be implemented.

Box Tops Pod Race Results

Fabulous job collecting! A total of 4735 were collected. Way to go Chestnut!! Here are the pod totals.

Keep collecting and turning in those Box Tops and Labels for Education. The count will be reset and the next race will end in January. Thank you for supporting Chestnut Elementary!

Box Tops Pod Race Update

The race is on! In the lead is the Blue Pod with 1285. Following close behind is the Green Pod with 952. The Yellow Pod is off to a slow start but is sure to gain momentum with almost 200 so far. The final collection for Race One of the series is next week! Be sure to send all your Box Tops and Labels for Education to school with your student.

Remember each Box Top is worth 10 cents! With over 550 students, 10 box tops per students earns us $550! Look for them on all your purchases: kleenex, ziploc, progresso soup, general mills cereal and so much more!

Reflections "Diversity means..."

Does your student like to draw, write stories, take pictures or make up songs? Reflections is a National PTA program to enhance the Arts in schools. The theme for this year is "Diversity means..." Students must submit an original piece of work in one of the following categories: art, literature, photography, musical composition, dance choreography, or film. The entry must include an entry form with parent signature. Students can obtain more information in Art, Music and Library. All entries are due by November 4 at 3pm.
